Nano calcium carbonate refers to the functional inorganic filler with a particle size of 1-100nm, which is widely used in rubber, plastic, paper, ink, coating, sealant and adhesive, medicine, toothpaste, food and other fields. Let's take a look at the application of nano calcium carbonate in rubber.

Nano calcium carbonate in rubber has a three-dimensional structure, and good dispersion, has a good semi-reinforcing effect. Mainly used in natural rubber, nitrile, styrene-butadiene, mixed rubber, etc., suitable for tires, rubber hose, tape and oil seals, auto parts and other rubber products. The rubber products added with nano calcium carbonate are much stronger than ordinary calcium carbonate in terms of elongation, compression deformation, yield resistance and tear resistance.

Tyres:Nano calcium carbonate can partially replace carbon black and white carbon black for the production of automobile tires, but there is still a gap in the reinforcement effect, so in the application of less stressed parts, such as sidewall, cord rubber, inner layer rubber, inner layer rubber, buffer rubber, etc. In production, the use of nano calcium carbonate and active zinc oxide can greatly improve the strength of tire tread.

Hose and tape:Nano calcium carbonate in the hose, tape in the main reinforcement, whitening, while improving the dispersion of the effect of the glue.

Wire and cable:Nano calcium carbonate is generally used in mine wire and cable, high voltage wire and cable, marine wire and cable protective sleeve and electrical wire and cable compound.

The technical requirements of the rubber industry for nano calcium carbonate are:

Oil absorption value:The rubber industry has higher requirements for the oil absorption value of nano calcium carbonate. The higher the oil absorption value, the better the wettability and reinforcement of rubber.

Crystal Form:Because the rubber requires very high reinforcement performance, the crystal form of nano calcium carbonate should be mainly chain or chain, and the chain segments will be entangled with each other during processing, which can enhance the strength of the system.

Particle size:The particle size of nano calcium carbonate used in rubber is generally 80 ~ 120nm, and the particle size is too large to have a reinforcing effect, while the particle size is too small to increase the contact area with rubber infiltration, making it difficult to disperse and affecting the mixing of rubber.

Moisture:The moisture control should not be higher than 0.5%, if the moisture is too high, the scorch time of vulcanization will be prolonged, which is not conducive to the promotion of vulcanization rate.

pH:The pH value of nano calcium carbonate mainly affects its vulcanization rate, which should be controlled between 9.5 and 10.5. If the pH value is low, the vulcanization rate will slow down, reducing efficiency and increasing energy consumption.

After surface modification, nano calcium carbonate has good compatibility with rubber, has the properties of reinforcement, filling, color mixing, improvement of processing technology and products, and can make rubber easy to mix and disperse. After mixing, the glue is soft and the rubber surface is smooth. The elongation, tensile strength and tear strength of the product can be essentially improved. It can reduce the gum content or partially replace expensive white fillers such as titanium dioxide and silica, improve the market competitiveness of products.

Yuan Lei's Little Knowledge | Performance Requirements and Types of Fillers for Coatings

2024-06-12

Fillers in coatings are usually white or slightly colored pigments with a refractive index less than 1.7. It has the basic physical and chemical properties of pigments used in coatings, but due to its refractive index being similar to the film-forming material, it is transparent in coatings and does not have the coloring and covering power of coloring pigments. It is an indispensable pigment in coatings.
