6 Application Fields of Ultrafine Barium Sulfate

1. Paper industry

Barium sulfate has high whiteness and strong hiding power. Ultrafine barium sulfate can be used as one of the raw materials for the production of copper plate paper surface coating agent. The fine barium sulfate particles with scale morphology can be used to make copy paper, which can make the paper surface smooth and shiny, especially suitable for information paper with high surface smoothness requirements, such as color copy paper.

2. Coatings industry

Barium sulfate has high whiteness and good hiding performance, the most important use is as a coating (oil coating, powder coating, water-based coating, special coating, etc.) filler.

Ultrafine barium sulfate used as a filler can reduce the cost of coating production. Barium sulfate used in coatings generally requires stable whiteness, pH<8, no mechanical impurities, and no graininess.

3. Plastic and rubber industry

The addition amount of barium sulfate has a crucial influence on the mechanical properties of the composites. With the increase of the addition amount of barium sulfate, the toughness and strength of the composites will increase first and then decrease.

The introduction of ultrafine barium sulfate particles on the thermal properties of the polymer is mainly reflected in two aspects, one is to change the crystallization characteristics of the polymer matrix; the other is to affect the thermal decomposition behavior of the material, so that its thermal stability changes.

4. Ink pigment industry

Ultrafine barium sulfate has a lot of performance indicators and titanium dioxide close, adding the right amount of ultrafine barium sulfate products can prevent the occurrence of flocculation phenomenon, so as to achieve the purpose of reducing the amount of titanium dioxide without affecting the product hiding power, but also can make the product weather resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other indicators have been improved.

Ultrafine barium sulfate particles can be used as a dispersant in colored pigments used in coatings, printing, inks, etc., to make the hue more vivid, gloss, smoothness and fullness better.

Ultrafine barium sulfate is used as a filler in the production of color lead printing ink, the addition amount is 10%-30%, the PH is neutral, and the whiteness and oil absorption value are stable.

5, Medical Field

The addition of barium sulfate to polyethylene to prepare X-ray development of polyethylene barium sulfate composite materials can solve the clinical application for the use of T-type copper IUD problems. Fine uniform barium sulfate can also be used as an auxiliary agent or additive for X-ray double contrast techniques.

Yuan Lei's Little Knowledge | Performance Requirements and Types of Fillers for Coatings

2024-06-12

Fillers in coatings are usually white or slightly colored pigments with a refractive index less than 1.7. It has the basic physical and chemical properties of pigments used in coatings, but due to its refractive index being similar to the film-forming material, it is transparent in coatings and does not have the coloring and covering power of coloring pigments. It is an indispensable pigment in coatings.

In architectural coatings, commonly used mineral materials include barium sulfate, calcium carbonate, kaolin, mica powder, talc powder, quartz powder, silica micro powder, transparent powder, glass powder, wollastonite powder, etc. Reasonable application of various mineral materials can effectively improve or enhance the performance of coatings. Let's take a look at the application of different mineral materials in coatings.

Yuan Lei's Little Knowledge | Characteristics of Mineral Materials

Mineral materials refer to the material products obtained by processing and transforming natural minerals (mainly non-metallic minerals) or rocks as the main raw materials, or minerals or rocks that can be directly used as materials and aim to utilize their main physical and chemical properties. This meaning mainly includes the following four aspects: first, natural minerals and rocks that can be directly utilized or processed to be utilized; Secondly, finished or semi-finished materials made mainly from natural non-metallic minerals and rocks through physical and chemical reactions; Thirdly, artificially synthesized minerals or rocks; Fourthly, the direct utilization targets of these materials are mainly their own physical or chemical properties, not limited to individual chemical elements.
